The M.Sc. (Medical) in Microbiology at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), MAHE, is a two-year postgraduate program conducted over four semesters. The program provides comprehensive training in basic and applied microbiology with strong emphasis on medical relevance.

Through a structured combination of core sciences, laboratory training, electives, and research project work, students develop the knowledge and skills required for teaching, diagnostic, and research roles in medical microbiology.

Strong Medical Microbiology Foundation: In our program, you receive structured training in bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology, and immunology with clear medical relevance.

Integrated Core & Specialised Learning: You study basic sciences, general microbiology, research methodology, and advanced medical microbiology through a well sequenced curriculum.

Hands‑On Laboratory Exposure: You gain practical experience in culture techniques, microbial identification, staining methods, and basic diagnostic procedures.

Elective‑Based Knowledge Expansion: You can choose electives in the second and third semesters to deepen your expertise beyond the core specialisation and explore areas of interest.

Research‑Oriented Curriculum: In the final semester, you undertake focused project work in medical microbiology, strengthening your research and analytical skills.

Teaching & Diagnostic Readiness: Our program prepares you for academic, laboratory, and diagnostic roles within healthcare and educational settings.

Lab Work

Gain hands-on‑ experience in microbiology laboratories through culture techniques, staining methods, microbial identification, immunological assays, and basic molecular diagnostics relevant to medical microbiology.

Research Projects

Participate in faculty guided‑ research projects in bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and immunology, culminating in a mandatory postgraduate project and academic presentations.

Teaching & Learning

Undertake structured academic and laboratory exposure through diagnostic postings, research activities, and interdisciplinary electives, preparing for teaching, diagnostic, and research oriented‑ careers

Program Eligibility

You must have successfully completed B.Sc. with minimum one subject in Biological Sciences/ B.Sc. Nursing/ B.Sc. in Allied Health Sciences/ BAMS/ MBBS/ BHMS/ BPT/ B.Pharm from a recognized university with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks or equivalent

You must appear for MET 2027 and secure the required cutoff Admission Process and attend physical/ online counselling

UG: 80% aggregate in 12th (as per admission criteria) PG: 70% aggregate in Undergraduate (UG)

Continuation of Scholarship

The award of Fee Waiver for the subsequent years will be the same as given at the time of admission in the first year. Scholarship will be extended in the subsequent year only to those students who have cleared all subjects in the University Examinations of previous year before the due date for payment of annual program fee. Students who are promoted to next year with failures (F) / Incomplete (I) / Detention (DT) grades, will NOT be eligible for fee waiver for that academic year. Fee Waiver will be forfeited in the instances of irregularity in attendance, proven charges of indiscipline, bringing disrepute to the Department / Institution / University etc.

Withdrawal Policy

In case the candidate leaves the course before the course completion (for any reason), he / she MUST reimburse the total program fee (as per Prospectus 2025) for the years of scholarship utilized, back to MAHE Manipal.
