Master the Science and Practice of Orthopaedic Surgery

The Master of Surgery (MS) in Otorhinolaryngology at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), MAHE, is a three-year postgraduate program regulated by the National Medical Commission. Offered since 1971, the program provides comprehensive training in ear, nose, throat, head & neck, and skull base disorders.

You train in a high-volume tertiary care setting with strong multidisciplinary collaboration, structured academics, hands-on surgical exposure, and research activity, preparing you for independent ENT practice and subspecialisation.

Program Highlights

Legacy of Training Excellence: Postgraduate ENT training offered since 1971 within a tertiary care teaching hospital.

Comprehensive ENT Care: Management of diseases involving ear, nose, throat, head & neck, and skull base.

Multidisciplinary Practice: Collaborative management of complex conditions including skull base tumours, head & neck cancers, vertigo, airway disorders, sleep apnoea, hearing loss, and swallowing disorders.

Centre for Balance Disorders: Dedicated multidisciplinary centre for evaluation and management of giddiness and balance disorders.

Broad Subspecialty Exposure: Opportunities across otology, neuro otology, rhinology, laryngology, head & neck oncology, paediatric ENT, facial plastic surgery, and sleep medicine.

Lab Work

Gain hands-on experience in ENT diagnostics and procedures including nasal endoscopy, video nystagmography, video stroboscopy, flexible nasopharyngoscopy and bronchoscopy, FNAC, temporal bone dissection, and endoscopic sinus surgery cadaver dissection within a tertiary care hospital.

Research Projects

Participate in faculty guided clinical research and academic activities in otology, rhinology, laryngology, head & neck surgery, balance disorders, airway and sleep medicine, culminating in a mandatory postgraduate dissertation and conference presentations.

Clinical Training

Undertake structured inhouse clinical rotations across outpatient services, inpatient care, emergency ENT services, operation theatres, multidisciplinary clinics, the Centre for Balance Disorders, and outreach programs, building readiness for subspecialty training and independent ENT practice.

Program Eligibility

Qualification

You must have successfully completed an MBBS degree from an institution or university recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the erstwhile Medical Council of India (MCI).

You must also:

Complete your compulsory internship on or before the date specified by the NMC.
Hold a Permanent Registration Certificate for the MBBS qualification issued by the NMC, the erstwhile MCI, or a State Medical Council.

For candidates with foreign medical qualifications:

You must be a registered medical practitioner in the country where you obtained your medical degree.
You must obtain a temporary registration certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
If you are an Indian citizen or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who have obtained your primary medical qualification outside India, you must qualify the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) (Screening Test) as per the Screening Test Regulations, 2002, conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).

Continuation of Scholarship

The award of Fee Waiver for the subsequent years will be the same as given at the time of admission in the first year. Scholarship will be extended in the subsequent year only to those students who have cleared all subjects in the University Examinations of previous year before the due date for payment of annual program fee. Students who are promoted to next year with failures (F) / Incomplete (I) / Detention (DT) grades, will NOT be eligible for fee waiver for that academic year. Fee Waiver will be forfeited in the instances of irregularity in attendance, proven charges of indiscipline, bringing disrepute to the Department / Institution / University etc.

Withdrawal Policy

In case the candidate leaves the course before the course completion (for any reason), he / she MUST reimburse the total program fee (as per Prospectus 2025) for the years of scholarship utilized, back to MAHE Manipal.
