In existence since 1985, the Department of Medical Education at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal seeks to transform medical education by organising training workshops for medical teachers and for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Faculty development and training programmes are conducted regularly by its trained faculty, with the goal of making teaching and learning more effective across undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education. The department is also recognised as a National Medical Commission (NMC) Regional Centre for conducting the Revised Basic Workshop for PG teachers from stand-alone PG teaching institutions.

- Organises workshops to help UG teaching departments implement the Competency-Based Undergraduate Medical Curriculum as per NMC guidelines.
- Sensitises teachers to new concepts in teaching and assessment, developing the knowledge and skills needed to serve as competent teachers, administrators, researchers, and mentors.
- Helps clinicians acquire competency in communication and behavioural skills, and update their knowledge using modern information and research methodology tools.
