Manipal University Convocation - A report

Manipal University Convocation was held at KMC Greens, Manipal on 17th November 2007. Prof VN Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU was the Chief Guest. Mr BS Baswan, Director, IIPA and former Senior Consultant, Planning Commission was the Guest of Honour.

Dr Ramdas M Pai, Chancellor, Dr HS Ballal, Pro Chancellor, Dr Raj Warrier, Vice Chancellor, Brig (Dr) SS Pabla, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr H Vinod Bhat, Registrar were present on the occasion.

Dr HS Ballal welcomed the gathering and Dr Raj Warrier gave an overview of the university.

The Chief Guest, Prof Pillai, said “the challenge before our country is the need of the rural people perceived differently and how the new technologies can benefit them and meet their requirements. Technologies with alternative visions have been addressing the rural development issue. In this connection, it is very necessary to focus on harnessing technology for rural development and enhancing skills and making rural youth employable”. As a solution, Prof Pillai said “Active partnership among industry, society and government and higher educational institutions should plan strategies to meet the requirement of respective societies” Lauding Manipal University for their initiatives in providing quality professional education, Prof Pillai said he has been associated with Manipal University since the time it was a deemed university a decade ago, and has been observing their commitment to quality.

Dr H Vinod Bhat administered the oath to the graduates. Dr S Narayan Rao, Controller of Examinations proposed vote of thanks. Dr K Ramnarayan, Dean, Melaka Manipal Medical College (Manipal Campus) was the master of ceremony. The convocation was witnessed by a large crowd of parents and well-wishers.
