  • All members of the hostel will automatically be the members of the mess. (not applicable for health sciences campus). However, all first year students of Health Sciences Campus are required to dine in one of the messes located in the campus that is either Food Court Mess or RKHS Mess. This is due to Health/safety concerns and Security reasons. The Annual Mess Advance will be collected annually along with hostel facilities fees and utility charges.
    The details of the charges are as below:
    Food court Mess at Manipal campus: Rs.24,000
    Messes at MIT campus: Rs.24,000
    Messes at Mangalore campus: Rs.24,000 
    Mess at WGSHA: Rs.18,000

  • Payment towards annual mess charges may be made by demand draft in favour of the following
    MAHE HOSTELS made payable at Manipal/ Udupi for Food court mess at Manipal campus
    MAHE HOSTELS made payable at Mangalore for mess at Mangalore campus
    MIT HOSTELS made payable at Manipal/ Udupi for messes at MIT campus
  • Delayed payments will attract a fine @ 12% per annum computed for each default day. The fine will be calculated from the day of following the last date for payment of the bills.

  • The actual mess bill will be announced every month and would be appropriated against the advance collected. Students will be required to pay any increase in the actual charges as compared to the amount collected in advance. The amount collected if found is excess after ascertaining the actual bill will be adjusted against the charges for the subsequent period or refunded.

  • Students at Manipal campus may also become members of RKHS (an outsourced agency) mess. In that case terms and conditions of RKHS mess will be followed. Their main mess is in NBQ Hostel Complex with one dining hall in Indira Hostel for ladies only.

  • In addition to the above messes, a modern Food Court is located in MIT and MU where a variety of cuisine is available on cash payment or memberships.

     

  • Payment towards mess charges may be made in cash or by local cheque. A fine of Rs. 500/- will be levied in case the bank dishonours a cheque besides taking any legal action as may be considered in specific cases.
  • Students will be permitted to apply for or appear for University Examination only after they clear their mess, hostel and tuition fee arrears. The Dean reserves the power to suspend any student whose bills are not paid.
  • Membership in any one of the mess in the campus is mandatory (not applicable to health sciences campus). However, all first year students of Health Sciences Campus are required to dine in one of the messes located in the campus that is either Food Court Mess or RKHS Mess. The Annual Mess Advance will be collected annually along with hostel facilities fees and utility charges.  Every student when he/she is initially given a seat in the hostel should register as member of one of the messes. Students who wish to become members of Food Court Mess are required to pay advance mess charges of Rs 16,000/-. The actual mess bill will be announced every month and would be appropriated against the advance collected. Students will be required to pay any increase in the actual charges as compared to the amount collected in advance. The amount collected if found in excess after ascertaining the actual bill will be adjusted against the charges for the subsequent period or refunded.
  • Students staying outside the hostels are not permitted to become members of the Food Court Mess, except with the approval of their HOIs and the written permission of the Chief Warden and on payment of the advance mess charges of Rs.16,000/-.
  • Hostel and mess dues must be cleared in time to avoid inconvenience to the residents and their parents/ guardians. Delayed payments attract fine. The mess dues list will be put up on the hostel notice boards. It is the residents’ responsibility to check the same and clear their dues within the stipulated grace period. No individual intimation will be given or sent to the parents.
  • Food will be served in the dining halls at the following hours:
    Breakfast: 7.00 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.
    Lunch: 12.15 p.m. to 2.00 p.m.
    Dinner: 7.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.
  • Residents are expected to maintain perfect discipline and order in the mess and in the dining hall always. Outside food and drinks is strictly not permitted to be consumed in the Food Court Mess. Disciplinary/ penal action will be initiated against the defaulters.
  • Members are forbidden to enter the kitchen.
  • Residents are not permitted to take their meals in their rooms. In special cases such as when the student is confined to bed due to illness, the Chief Warden’s or Warden’s written permission should be obtained and the food will be served in the rooms. No private caterers are permitted to supply food within hostels.
  • Students who have discontinued/disallowed from dining in the mess and/or from residing in the hostels will not be permitted to rejoin mess or hostel unless they have cleared their dues including fines if any.
