The Department of Statistics was established on 1st August 2006, to serve the statistical needs in education and enhance research activities at the University. It was the first independent teaching department under the University. The department is situated on the sixth floor of the Health Sciences Library Building.
The department offers a Master’s programme in Biostatistics (4 semesters), certificate course in Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Research Methodology (6 months) and doctoral programmes. It also offers various postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes related to Statistics, Epidemiology and research methodology, to several health science courses and has collaborative projects with national and international agencies. It maintains a strong liaison with other departments for Research methodology, Epidemiology and data analysis, as well.
Students are constantly encouraged to become familiar with statistical computing, and prepare research protocols and reports. The department conducts workshops and seminars on specific topics on advanced statistical methods on a regular basis.
