What is Biostatistics?
Biostatistics is the application of statistics to biology, medicine and public health. It is applied to research questions in fields such as bioassay, bioinformatics, clinical trials, dentistry, ecology, environmental health, epidemiology, genomics, health care policy, medicine, nursing, nutrition, public health, pharmacology and genetics. Biostatisticians participate at all stages of research including design of collaborative studies, conduct and analysis of those studies, oversight and regulation of scientific research, participation on governmental advisory or policymaking boards, training researchers in good statistical practice, and development of new statistical theory and methods useful in the analysis of biological data.

What are the career prospects?
Job prospects for biostatistics postgraduates are excellent, with career opportunities in academia and in public and private sectors, particularly in settings emphasising research in pharmaceutical and biotechnology. All M.Sc. Biostatistics students of previous batch (2007-09) have been placed as Biostatistician in top pharmaceutical industries and CRO’s in India.

What is the eligibility to apply for the M.Sc Biostatistics programme?
If you have B.Sc Statistics or B.Sc Mathematics with statistics as a subsidiary subject degree you are eligible for this programme. Any student graduated in one of the following course may apply for M.Sc. Biostatistics Course. B.Sc. Statistics or Mathematics, B.E or B Tech, BCA/B.Sc. Computer Science, Any other graduation with minimum 2 years learning of Mathematics & Statistics

Yes, one can register as a part time research scholar for Ph.D in Department of Statistics.

What is the eligibility to apply for the certificate course in Biostatistics, Epidemiology and research methodology?
Any graduation in health science professional courses (MBBS, BPT, BASLP, BPharm, BSc Nursing etc) or Post graduation in health science related non professional courses (MSc-Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry etc). Students undergoing their internship are also eligible.
