Curricular innovations :

As of today, MMMC has trained 1757 doctors which is a significant contribution to the professional medical manpower in Malaysia. The voice of the credibility of the programme are the 1757 doctors who are serving mainly in the government hospitals in the various parts of Malaysia including remote areas in Sabah, West Malaysia. These doctors, many of them in the rural settings are rendering quality health care to their community. The programme has grown stronger by the year, with more students aspiring to pursue in this institution.

Some Curricular Innovations:
1.Six-strand curriculum: Introduced in September 2006
The institution follows the Six-stranded curriculum with horizontal and vertical strands.
•Horizontal strands include (1) The Normal Human Body & its Function (2) Body’s reaction to injury (3) Practice-Based Medicine (4) Scientific Basis of Medicine
•Vertical strands include (1) Doctor, Patient, Health, Community & Environment (2) Personal & Professional Development

2.Problem-based Learning (PBL): At MMMC (Manipal Campus), a hybrid approach to the implementation of PBL has been adopted.

3.Self-Directed Learning (SDL): Students are given small components of the modules for self study to motivate independent learning.

4.Personal and Professional Development (PPD) : To ensure that students are not only professionally good doctors, but also good human beings, PPD classes are conducted with topics related to doctor-patient relationship and professional ethics .
5.Mentorship: Keeping in mind the cultural background and special needs of the international students, a group of students is assigned to a faculty mentor. A mentor functions as a professional counselor, guide and friend. The mentor monitors the progress of his wards and keeps the parents informed. Mentors maintain a profile card for each of their wards.
