Student related:

1.Open door policy is followed in the institution at all levels, between dean and faculty and also between students and faculty.
2.Incentive for 100% attendance: Students who have attended all classes for all subjects in the academic year are honored with a certificate of appreciation on the annual day and the institution can boast of a sizable number (27% in the last ten batches) of students who achieve this feat.
3.Feedback box: Students are free to give their feedback regarding examination and other matters anonymously.
4.Mentored Student project: Year 2 students of the institution are required to pursue a project involving in-depth study of an area of interest and prepare a written, referenced report of scholarly substance. The project is conducted under the guidance of a faculty mentor. This helps the student to gain an insight into research methodology and to encourage the development of critical thinking skills.
5.Anatomy prosection, where senior students teach junior students, is an enjoyable teaching and learning experience for students.
6.Learning portfolio for clinical students: Students in the clinical semester maintain a record of their learning activities during their postings in various hospitals.
7.Student brochure: For every admission, students are provided with fully updated colourful brochure which outlines the academic calendar, course requirements, examination rules and campus facilities.
8.Subject course guide: A booklet outlining the learning objectives in each subject and instructions regarding practicals, SDLs and examinations is provided to students.
9. Problem based learning booklet: In order to orient newly joined faculty and also junior faculty to PBL, a booklet has been compiled. The booklet also incorporates a rubric which helps faculty to give constructive feedback to students.
Exam related:
1.Objective Structured Clinical Examination and Objective Structured Practical Examination are conducted in order to have a objective and uniform assessment.
2.Clinically oriented, restricted response essay questions are part of theory examinations.
3.Continuous assessment of students is through periodic class tests, SDLs and PBL evaluations.
4.Distinction and borderline viva: Students who have scored distinction marks in the university examinations are invited for a distinction viva wherein they must defend their distinction. Students who have scored borderline marks in the university examinations are required to appear for a borderline viva and they will pass only after a satisfactory performance in the viva.
5.External examiners from India and Malaysia are involved in the conduct of the practical and viva examinations.

Faculty development:

1.Weekly faculty council meetings are conducted to review and discuss academic matters. Faculty present research findings and topics of general interest in these meetings. Staff members are greeted on their birthdays with a card in which colleagues write good things about them.
2.Research/library day: Each faculty gets one day in a month as as a research day to facilitate research activity. After introduction of this innovative measure, the number of publications from the faculty has increased tremendously.
3.Teaching portfolio: A dossier/record compiled by an academic staff member of his/her own major accomplishments and strengths in the area of teaching.
4.Medical education: All new faculty members are required to attend the workshops conducted by the department of medical education such as teaching-learning, human resource development, student evaluation, learning skills, public speaking, challenges of classroom teaching and conflict management. In addition, eleven faculty members have been trained by Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER).
