  • Is the Voltage rate different from that in Malaysia?
    Yes. Its 220V.

  • Can electrical equipments bought in Malaysia be used without any problems in Manipal?
    Yes. They can be used after fixing an electricity stabiliser which is easily available in Manipal.
  • Will I require any voltage transformer to use equipments bought in Malaysia?
    You will need a stabiliser which you can purchase in Manipal.
  • Is it advisable to bring along electrical equipments from Malaysia to Manipal?
    You may bring them along if you wish. But you will need stabilisers for electricity in Manipal.
  • What are the electrical items advisable to bring along?
    Iron, kettle, transistor radio and other small items. Not Hi-Fi, TV or video.
  • What are the electrical items we can get in Manipal?
    All items are available in Manipal and nearby.
  • Can students bring their own iron, kettle, heater and other electrical equipments and use in the hostel?
    You may bring along an electric jug kettle. Iron is not required as there is economical and efficient laundry service available at the hostel.
  • What about bringing a personal computer from Malaysia?
    You may not need computer for academic work; however it might be useful for communication and research. There are ample computing facilities available in the campus. A laptop might be a good choice to bring.
  • What computer facilities are available in the Manipal University?
    Internet cafés and cyber cafes are available in Manipal town. In the campus you can be accessible to computers and Internet in many places including hostels. All students are given an Email address at the Library.
  • Are there any paid Computer facilities available outside Manipal campus? What are the charges?
    Several internet cafes are available at affordable prices.
  • Does the academic work in Manipal require me to have a computer?
    No. You may progress smoothly without a computer.
  • What about the idea of purchasing a computer/laptop in India?
    Possible. Dealers are available.
  • Any experience to be related from Malaysian students who brought or bought their own computers?
    Some students did bring their own computers, but they were not well used. You may bring a laptop if necessary, for communication and research use.
  • What are the difficulties students face by not having a personal computer in Manipal?
    No problem. For Email we have so many Cyber Cafes in Manipal and also computers available in the University Library.
