  1. Cancer Screening and early detection and cancer education programme conducted in and around Manipal
  2. Fund raising for poor cancer patients

New Equipment added:

Linear Accelerator: Precise Linac with 6 and 15 MV Photon Energy, 6 nos. Electron Energies with one set of MLCI Multileaf Collimator and iViewGT Amorphous Silicon Portal Imaging system. The linear accelerator has the facility to treat patients using Intensity modulated radiotherapy and 3D CRt. This type of Linear Accelerator will reduce the reactions and increase the treatment results and survival as well as patient will get more dose of radiation to the primary tumours. The machine also has provision to treat patients with electrons. This is mainly used to treat superficial tumours. It helps to spare the normal tissue behind the tumour as the dose delivered beyond the tumour is negligible.

Precise PLAN 3D Treatment Planning System with IMRT and 2 additional workstations: The planning of radiotherapy requires a very dedicated planning system. The department has a new precise planning system. The images acquired from the dedicated CT scan machine are transmitted to the planning system. This system has simple contouring with 3D margining, Excellent beam modelling displays, MLC plan option for MLC shaping, IMRT Inverse Planning, Networking workstations support remote contouring and planning stations, etc., for improved treatment of cancer patients.

Flat Panel Radiotherapy Simulator: Acuity IX Planning and Simulation system. AC-450000 Acuity IX Treatment Planning, Simulation and Verification system: Planned fields can be set up automatically in the simulator reducing the data entry and setup errors. Plan evaluation including DRR and image comparison and motion analysis is easily accomplished with a number of tools available. A standard feature on Acuity is Image controlled simulation. With this feature we can adjust field position, field size and collimator angle directly on the image. The integrated design means that these changes are immediately made to the system for re-imaging of the new positions. This procedure speeds up the process of simulation and can decrease the exposure time to the patient.
