The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was started in 1954 and has been providing comprehensive health care for women. Apart from regular clinical services in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we provide specialised care in high-risk pregnancies, assisted reproductive techniques for infertile patients, cancer screening, detection as well as management of female genital cancers.

We have kept ourselves abreast with new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and have made them available to patients. We run seven Rural Maternity and Child Health Centres where basic obstetric care to pregnant women is provided. We also run ‘A’ grade post partum centre where contraceptive services are provided free of cost.

The department is headed by Dr. Pratap Kumar Narayan for the past 15 years. There are 38 staff members dedicated to patient care and teaching.

The department focuses on critical care and medical disorders in obstetrics. It has state-of-the-art facilities like ultrasound (up to level III) and Doppler, antenatal ultrasound for detection and monitoring of pregnancy, foetal growth and development. The patients have been availing of these facilities for the last 20 years.

The centre also offers advanced diagnostic and operative endoscopy facilities (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy) which have revolutionised the management of infertility and gynaecological cases. A well-equipped endoscopic surgical unit is giving facilities for operative work.
