The department of Dermatology was established in 1970. Since then, it has been keeping abreast of the developments in the field of research and therapeutics, making it one of the most sought-after departments in Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. The newly renovated Dermatology OPD is spacious with adequate patient waiting facility and privacy. The patient records are digitalized.

The department has a comprehensive training programme for post graduation in dermatology for both diploma (DDVL) and Masters degree (MD). In addition to the usual clinical and theory classes, there are sessions on problem based approach.

Clinical as well as theory classes for the undergraduate students (MBBS) under Manipal University, based on their medical curriculum are conducted by the faculty of the department.

The clinical services offered by the department include management of patients with dermatological problems, sexually transmitted diseases and leprosy. This is a major referral centre for Immunoflorescence Testing for South and East India.  Dermatological and cosmetic surgery including Laser therapies are also performed. The Department conducts Speciality Clinics in Psychodermatology, Leprosy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
