Teaching Forensic Medicine to the under graduate II MBBS Students of III, IV and V semester with a weekly schedule and methodology of:

Methodology:

Theory teaching - By didactic lectures/ student seminars/ group discussions etc. covering the area of legal procedures, medical law and ethics, Thanatology, forensic identity, FSL, medico legal autopsy, forensic pathology, Clinical forensic medicine, forensic psychiatry, sexual jurisprudence and forensic toxicology.

Practical training

  1. It includes drafting certificates and such other documentations of medico legal importance, determination of age and establishing sex identity from skeletal remains/ living persons, study of dry/ wet museum specimens obtained from real medico legal autopsy cases. Apart from this, the practical training is also inculcated by the study of crime scene/ case photographs, histopathology slides of forensic implications; instruments and appliances of autopsy and clinical use; weapons of medico legal interest, forensic toxicological specimens, etc. Each student has to witness/ assist a minimum of 10 routine medico legal autopsy cases and document the same in their record book.
  2. 24 hours round the clock Medico Legal Autopsy service.
  3. Expert opinion on referred Medico Legal Cases from the districts assigned.
  4. Crime scene visits with the police/ Investigating Officers (IO).
  5. Court duties as summoned on cases autopsied/ given expert opinions.
  6. Departmental and inter- departmental seminars and case discussions.
  7. Participating clinico-pathological meetings.
  8. Organising academic meetings/conferences/ CME etc., in subject specialty.
  9. Departmental/ inter- departmental/ inter institutional level research projects.
  10. Student research projects especially of national agencies such as ICMR
  11. Publishing text books/ contributing chapters to books in subject specialty.
