Centre for Small Business Management (CSBM)


Small enterprises occupy an important place in the economy in terms of its contribution to employment generation, utilisation of local resources, low investment, and promoting entrepreneurship. Coastal Karnataka comprising Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts are industrially fast developing regions with over 14,000 small business units in DK and Udupi districts alone. Udupi district has 5,629 tiny and small-scale industries wherein an investment has been made to the tune of Rs. 218 crores generating employment to 34,123.

MIM, in collaboration with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), established a centre for small business management in the year 2002. This centre is devoted to overall development of small and medium enterprises in the coastal districts of Karnataka. The centre conducts management development programmes and skill cum technology upgradation programmes for the owners/ managers of small and medium enterprises. Small Industries Management Program (SIMAP) is another unique programme aimed at training managers for small businesses.

The centre has played an active role in revamping the SME sector in Udupi District, by providing timely counselling to the SME owners and managers on all aspects of their functioning. The centre is also engaged in small business consultancy and has helped number of units to solve marketing, production and other management related problems.
