The Manipal Life Sciences Centre (MLSC) is identified as TIFAC-CORE (Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council Centres of Relevance & Excellence) under vision 2020 in the area of Pharmacogenomics. MLSC is actively promoting advanced research in India and abroad. Research and developmental activities are also supported by DBT, GOI in Translational Medicine, ICMR, DST, BRNS and several other industry partners. The centre is thriving on the excellent research faculty, facility and resources; aiming to become the nation's No. 1 research, diagnostic and education Centre. The centre conducts international conferences and workshops to keep abreast with the advances and for promoting new enthusiasm amongst young scientists.
MLSC which was established in 2002 and obtained independent identity in 2006 and is one of the scientific hubs in Manipal. It is headed by the Director, Dr. K. Satyamoorthy. The institute has the honour of being one of the top biotechnological institutes of the country.
The mission statement of the centre is to engage in cutting edge research, training, education and offer help to the community in the field of human health. The centre prepares students for productive careers in this versatile, dynamic, evolving discipline. Upon graduation, students will have learned skills in critical thinking, problem solving and communication necessary for success as practicing biotechnologists or in post-graduate studies.
The centre has signed MOUs with Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR), Flinders University, University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology in Australia, University of Cincinnati in USA, Maastricht University in Netherlands and Lancaster University, UK. It has research collaboration with various institutions in United States, Germany, The Netherlands and Australia.
Manipal Life Sciences Centre admits about 40 graduate students and 50 post graduate students each year in addition to Ph.D. scholars. It has faculty strength of 22 with total staff strength of 100.
