This Dual Master Degree Program (DMDP) has been jointly designed to develop international research and learning opportunities. In this DMDP the students pursue the semester 1 and 2 at Manipal from respective branch, and students have a choice to pick the course at Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) and continue there as a freshmen or pick flexibly managed program and directly enter into 2nd trimester in Edinburgh Napier University. Finally thesis work is jointly evaluated to award the respective degree from the respective university. Project/Thesis work can be done in an industry or university or in R&D organization either in UK or India, for which Manipal University (MU) and Lancaster University provide assistance.

About Edinburgh Napier University

Flexibly-Managed Program:
With a Flexibly-Managed or Certificate of Credit programme, you build your own individual study path within certain parameters to achieve a specific goal. This approach gives you the opportunity to design a programme of study that focuses on your background, personal aspirations and career. Guidance is given from the designated academic staff in the role of your Personal Development Tutor (PDT) and/or Faculty/School Advisor, who will work closely with you on your programme.
As you are tailoring your degree to your own needs or selected subject areas, then you naturally will develop or enhance relevant skills that will assist you in your chosen career path - and your PDT and School Advisor is there to assist you along the way.

Issues Specific to Flexibly-Managed and Certificate of Credit Program:
There are two main areas of difference from a conventional structured programme:
• Entry to modules for students on flexibly-managed and option-rich programmes is not guaranteed. Each module has a finite capacity and frequently specific pre-requisites. This varies depending on the module itself, the type of module and the resources required to support it (e.g. photography). It is usually possible to identify in advance modules that are likely to have restrictions. It is important to be aware that continuing students (i.e. carrying on from the previous year) take priority for registration on a particular module.

• Timetables are only available approximately two months before a Trimester starts. It is always a possibility that unrelated modules (i.e. from different structured programmes) could be timetabled at the same time or be taught in different campuses (which would require travelling time). It is therefore important to verify that these clashes do not occur and your School Advisor of Studies will be able to assist you with this.

Title of Award:

• As a rule, students on unstructured programmes cannot be given an award title that is already offered on a structured or semi-structured programme.

• Degree titles on Flexible programmes have to go through an approval process, where the content of the programme (i.e. the modules studied) will largely determine the title allocated. When planning, you of course can influence this – by having a ‘major’ subject area, along with a ‘minor’ one.

• Combined Studies is one of the options that is possible and BSc (Hons) Computing and Engineering is a generic title that can be awarded – of course depending on the modules studied.

• Approval meetings for programme titles are arranged to examine during Trimester 1 and Trimester 2. Following this, a ‘working’ title will be suggested and you will have the opportunity to negotiate with the Programme Leader to alter this title if you feel it is not suitable. Your Programme Leader will be able to advise when a title is not feasible and will work with you to achieve an alternative. Please note that the range of titles that can be utilised for Flexible programmes is not extensive due to regulations and Faculty generic titles are normally recommended.

• As your studies progress (and possibility change emphasis) you will have the opportunity to amend your working title. Please note, however, that the title needs to be formally agreed well before the intended date of completion of your studies.
