Motivation
The goal of virtualization is to centralize administrative tasks while improving scalability and workloads. Virtualization is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as an operating system, a server, a storage device or network resources. Virtualization can be viewed as part of an overall trend in enterprise IT that includes
Autonomic computing: The IT environment will be able to manage itself based on perceived activity.
Utility computing: Computer processing power is seen as a utility that clients can pay for only as needed.
Advantages:
Flexibility: When launching a new web product, it can be hard to predict what pieces of application will need more resources than the actual one. The change in the amount of memory, the number of CPUs and the amount of disk space a server has quickly, easily and remotely can be done.
Availability: if we lose one of the physical servers, we can quickly bring up the virtual servers, it hosted somewhere else.
Resource utilization: Running a simple web server on a system would be a waste of CPU and memory resources. Running several virtual servers on a system will provide the maximum return on the investment.
Program Objective
The M.Sc. Tech Virtualization Program is geared to industrial processes and research methods.
The program prepares the students for the carrying out research and consultant to Virtualization and any IT industry.
The curriculum is comprised of deep insight into virtualization concepts like Hardware Virtualization, Desktop Virtualization, Network Virtualization, Storage Virtualization etc. Special focus is given to the essential technologies and application orientated architecture templates and necessary design efforts for the system platforms.
Equip students with the interdisciplinary skills that form an integral part of modern computational science.
Develop student’s transferable skills in problem solving, project management, independent critical thinking, professionalism and communication.
This also paves way for graduates towards a doctoral degree.
Prospects and Placements
