The department of Mathematics at Manipal Institute of Technology] was initiated in 1957 with a mere strength of three faculty members. Currently the department has grown and developed into a status of eminence both in terms of number and quality of its academic output. Mathematics department being a resourceful academic department among others at MIT, has highly qualified, experienced and motivated faculty members who are committed to relentlessly try for advancement in every field of Mathematics. The department has 38 faculty members with 8 Professors, 8 Associate Professors and 22 Assistant Professors of which 17 members have Ph.D. in different branches of Mathematics like Numerical Methods, Graph Theory, Fluid Dynamics, Algebra, Topology, Number Theory, Functional Analysis, Fuzzy logic and Complex Analysis. Further, a substantialnumber of facultymembers are pursuing their Ph.D. degree. A few faculty members have also obtained Post-Doctoral fellowship in specialized areas of Mathematics.
The faculty of the Department teaches AppliedMathematics through regular and elective subjects for UG andPG courses like M.Tech, M.Sc., M.C.A and are also involved in teaching Pure and Applied Mathematics for students in the other constituent institutions of Manipal University. Over the years, the department has contributed in producing the best engineers as well as helping professionals in various inter disciplinary areas. The curriculum designed by the department provides a sound grounding in underlying mathematical theory, emphasizes a variety of useful mathematical techniques, and helps students to develop proficiency in using computers and computational methods.
Facilities and Activities:
• The department has well equipped separate scientificMathematics Computer Lab with MATLAB and other softwares.
• 50 seating capacity seminar hall for interdisciplinary weekly seminars.
• Well organized departmental library
•Qualified research guides in Graph Theory, Numerical Methods, Complex Analysis, Algebra, Fluid Mechanics, Fuzzy mathematics, and Linear Algebra.
• Conducts weekly seminars to inculcate and initiate interdisciplinary research in Science and Engineering.
