The Department of Chemistry was established in 1957. Since then, the department has continuously grown to become one of the largest departments in the institute. The Department of Chemistry possesses excellent lab facilities and sophisticated equipment for the students during their course of study. The department has five laboratories namely, B.E/ B.Tech. , Engg. Chemistry Lab 1 &2, Organic Chemistry Lab, Physical Chemistry & Instrumentation lab and Research lab, which are well equipped to meet the demands of the students. Recent achievements include a collaborative investigation study with JNTU, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, G.E, Bangalore, Biocon, Bangalore and NITK – Surathkal. The curriculum is a blend of the conventional and the radical. It is regularly updated  to keep up with the growing demands and the challenging trends of the industry and the research laboratories.
