Established in the year 1992, the department of Printing and Media Engineering provides an in-depth study in modern graphic technology and media sciences. The Department offers a Bachelor of Engineering in “Printing Technology” since inception. The Department is also offering a Master of Technology in “Printing and Media Technology” from August 2008. This Masters programme is open to all graduates in engineering.

Both the programs, Bachelors and Masters, are multi-disciplinary in nature, covering different areas like Mechanical, Information Technology, Electrical, Electronics, Computers, Chemical in addition to Physics and Chemistry. This also includes management related areas: Total Quality Management, Operation Management, Organization Behavior, Project Management etc.

The proximity to Manipal Power Press Limited, one of the leading printing organizations in Asia, gives an added advantage in having hands on training to students on each and every aspect of a print house which helps them to gain thorough practical knowledge about the subjects during the course of study.

The Institute has one of the best infrastructures available in the country for Printing Technology; as a result of which the program has again been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for 5 years (2008-2013).

The department is equipped with the state of the art laboratories with the most sophisticated equipments like : Epson Stylus Pro 7900, PoliRip V2.08, Epson A3 Scanner 20000, Liquid Photopolymer Plate Maker, Emulsification Tester, Viscosity Tester, Oil absorbance Tester, Air Knife Coater, IGT Printability Tester, Mini Carton Compression Tester, Ink Rub Resistance Tester, Ring Crush Tester, Crown size Offset machine (AUTO PRINT), Semiautomatic Screen printing Machine, Flexo-cum-RotoGravure Hybrid Printing Machine, Xrite 530 Spectro-densitometer, Plate Scope, D19c Densitometer, ColorMunki, X-rite i1iO Extreme, X-rite i1 Basic, ProfileMaker 5 Platinum, Thermal and Adhesive lamination, UV varnishing... are a few to mention.

A Memorandum of Understanding has also been signed with Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany for co-operation, joint research projects, student exchange and for a postgraduate double degree program in Print and Media Production.
