About the department

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) was started as an independent department in 1988, though a B. Tech. Degree programme in CSE was started in 1985, as part of the Department of Electronics and Communications, with affiliation to the Mangalore University.  Over the years the department has developed to become a centre of excellence providing in-depth technical knowledge and opportunities for innovation and research with well equipped computer facilities and dedicated faculty.

Tie-up with professional bodies

The department has tie-up with Infosys, Microsoft, TCS, EMC Corporation and Phillips India Pvt. Ltd.  Phillips has instituted scholarships, each up to Rs. 4 lakhs, for those admitted to Masters’ degree in Computer Science & Engineering programme at M.I.T.  The department also conducts the Infosys Campus Connect Programme.

Research activity

The R&D activities of the staff and the students have resulted in several publications both in the Indian and International Conferences as well as Journals. There are around 150 publications by the department faculty in various national and international journals and conferences.   The department also has to its credit the best paper award given away at the 8th World multi conference held in Florida, USA.  The department has AICTE research grant under research promotional scheme.

Other activities

The department has set up an Incubation Centre for the use of local entrepreneurs.  It is a joint programme of Govt. of Karnataka and Manipal University. The department is offering Ph.D. programmes in all disciplines of Computer Science.
