Presently the department has six different laboratories, viz. Digital Systems Lab., PG and Research Lab. Systems Software Lab., Network Technology Lab., Software Design and Consultancy Lab. and Computational Paradigms Lab. with central air-conditioning, UPS and special furniture for computer users. Each lab has been designed to accommodate 30 students per session and has been equipped with the state of the art computer systems, consisting of a total of about 180 Pentium Computers, with all necessary peripherals.
A Manipal wide Intranet facility, based on a 2 GBps fibre optic cable backbone has been installed, to which about 90 of our computers are connected. Several of these terminals are also provided with access to the Internet, for the benefit of both the staff and students of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. There is also a campus wide Wi-Fi facility available.
Moreover, the Computer Centre also serves as a central facility at the College with about 100 Pentium IV and Zeon Processors and Zeon based servers, thus providing a valuable set of infrastructure facilities for instruction and project work for the entire student population of the College. A mini auditorium with facilities for sophisticated projection system (PC+LCD projector) as well as individual PC’s for use by participants, all networked through an Intranet is under construction, for facilitating student seminars, special lectures and conducting advanced lab classes. The entire faculty are given laptops by the university.
