Biomedical Engineering Society of India (BMESI)
The Biomedical Engineering Society of India (BMESI) Manipal Chapter is a student’s association affiliated to the Department of Biomedical Engineering, MIT Manipal. The society was inaugurated by the former vice chancellor of MAHE, Prof. M. S. Valiathan in the year 1994. The association now has 130 active student member (final year: 35, third year: 25, second year: 46, M Tech. 24) and 12 faculty members. The main objective of the association is to provide the students with the foundational Knowledge and skill in Biomedical Engineering that they would need to become and remain leaders in their chosen field. This objective is met by organising many academic and extra- curricular activities, and encouraging the entire student members to actively participate in every event. The society also works towards the growth of the department and helps in better interaction of the faculty and student members of the department. The student’s chapter of BMESI is always abuzz with activities. An extra-curricular week will be organised every year which serves as a platform for students to show their talent in various cultural events like singing, dancing, literary activities and sports. The BMESI student chapter, Manipal, also provides the students with a platform (through seminars, guest-lectures & competitions) to interact and learn more about their areas of interest in Biomedical Engineering.
The head office of the Biomedical Engineering Society of India (BMESI) is presently at the Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, MIT, Manipal, the activities of which includes publishing national-level journals and bimonthly newsletters. Dr. Ramesh Galigekere, HOD, also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Biomedical Engineering Society of India (BMESI).
