Dr. Vinod V. Thomas obtained his B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Mysore, in 1983, and the M.Tech. and PhD degrees from Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in 1989 and 2003 respectively. He joined as faculty in Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, in 1983. Prior to his appointment as Joint Director, he was Head of the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineeringfrom October 2005 to October 2008, Associate Director (Academics) from October 2008 to December 2011 and Associate Director (Development) from January to April 2012. His research interests are in the area of Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from MIT Manipal in 2008, and was recognised for distinguished service for 25 years by Manipal University in 2009. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and Fellow of Institution of Engineers.
