The study of comprehensive biological sciences is integrated and stressed throughout the course. Research is an integral component of the academic activities and this programme is especially recommended for those who desire to pursue a career in academics.

The department is extensively involved in research programmes, which enable graduates to effectively apply their knowledge in analysing the life style of the children and evaluating indigenous methods.
Skills in Research methodology with respect to data recording and statistics are improvised. At present, the department is actively engaged in two major, long term follow up clinical trials sponsored by Cadila Pharmaceutical,GC Corp.India and one project under Indian Council of Medical Research student fellowship program.

The department has won several national and international awards for best research paper /poster presentations and publications at state awards for three of the best research paper presentations and 2 scientific paper publications at state and national levels besides having 49 national and 14 international publications to its credit. It also has collaborative research programmes with overseas universities. Postgraduates and staff are continuously engaged in attending academic conferences with active participation in the scientific sessions at national and international level. At present, the department is engaged in noteworthy research projects like clinical preventive dentistry, stem cell research, innate immune mechanisms in saliva, special child care programmes, etc. Here in the department, the concept of comprehensive care is adopted so that the student develops a holistic approach and appreciation for child health care.
