The care for child patients commences at the reception with a warm and affectionate welcome. The friendly and playful atmosphere of the department is enhanced with the aquarium at the reception area. The counselling room helps the child to decrease his/ her anxiety and to involve the child with dental situations. Special emphasis and care is given to very young children who do not co-operate and also to those who are physically or mentally handicapped or medically compromised, who can be managed under general anesthesia setup in the department .This is undertaken in the ‘Special Child Care’ established for this purpose. In brief, a comprehensive and prevention oriented dental care is delivered.

Three school dental clinics with sophisticated facilities for complete oral rehabilitation are established in the school premises which are unique models for other universities in the country. Postgraduate doctors and interns are posted to these clinics for these as a part of their curriculum.

The department is supervised by well qualified full time teaching faculty members, who are completely dedicated to academic programmes. Each of the faculty member undergo an extensive teaching learning programme, which is run by the university and are regularly exposed to continuing dental education programmes to update their panorama of knowledge.

Teaching faculty exchange with the overseas universities and organising CDE Programmes, to update the staff and students, is a unique feature of the department.
