The department offers a postgraduate training course of three years. The course is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching and research in the specialty of Oral Medicine and Radiology by means of seminars, journal clubs and case presentations.
First Year Curriculum Includes the following

PG orientation programme conducted by Medical Education department of KMC

Lectures and practical training in Basic science subjects ( Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology and Microbiology)

Case History taking and clinical examination of various cases seen in the department and medical management of oral mucosal lesions , facial pain etc: 100 cases

Intraoral radiographic exercises – Practicing various intraoral radiographic techniques, manual and automatic processing and interpretation. Identification of landmarks in intraoral radiographs

Extraoral radiographic exercises- Identification of various landmarks on tracings made of radiographic images, Practising various extraoral radiographic techniques

5 Seminars in Basic science subjects

5 Journal club presentations

Basic training in Computers

Library dissertation

Selection of Topic for dissertation and submitting the protocol

Undergraduate teaching- taking small group discussions

University Exam at the end of third year with four theory exams and clinical exam on two days with one long case, two short cases and 2 spotters, radiographic exercises, dissertation presentation, Viva.voce
Objectives of Postgraduate Course in Oral Medicine and Radiology:
At the end of three years of training, the candidate should be able to acquire adequate knowledge and skills pertaining to the discipline and inculcate the right attitude.
Knowledge:
Theoretical, clinical and practical knowledge of all oral and maxillofacial disorders, diagnostic procedures pertaining to them and the latest information of imaging modalities
Skills:
- Diagnostic skills in recognition of oral and maxillofacial diseases
- Skills to interpret and establish radiographic diagnosis
- Research skills in handling scientific problems pertaining to oral diseases and their treatment
- Teaching skills
- Communication skills
