1. Does MCODS have any research facility for students?

The college is a constituent college of Manipal University and hence follows its policies to the maximum. The institution has three main goals and objectives, which covers all the aspects required to groom a student into a mature, knowledgeable, skillful and responsive dentist, ever willing to meet the needs of the patients and society at large. The college encourages both undergraduate and postgraduate students to carry out research activities for which they are given special attention. Our students have done well at national level research competitions. For example, Dr Ankur Gupta and Mr Rushil Dang received the first prize for their clinical model. The prize also incuded the distinction of visiting the United States of America to present their model. The college also provides the Dr. TMA Pai grant for thesis or research related work which requires external funding. Our college is receiving extra mural grants for research related work from institutions like ICMR New Delhi and Colgate Ltd. All this helps us to strive for excellence in academics and clinical programme. The research activities are supervised by the institutional review board or the scientific committee in cases where ethics are involved.

2. Can a foreign student apply to MCODS?

MCODS, Manipal takes in students from all across the globe and they form a large chunk of our alumni too. The students can apply under either NRI or foreign students’ category. Details are available with admissions office of the University.

3. Is it a co-educational college/ girls/ boys collge?

It is a co-educational institution where equal opportunities are provided to members of both genders without any prejudices.

4. What are the various career options after a UG or PG degree at MCODS? Please provide details.

Students from MCODS, Manipal have excelled in their respective fields after finishing their education from here. Be it BDS or MDS, they have found themselves good avenues where they have been able to display their skills acquired at MCODS, Manipal. Our students have found excellent opportunities in all fields like clinical practice, industrial work or academic enhancement. Many of our distinct luminaries have reached the highest positions of their institutions. Dr. Ramananda Shetty is the current Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of health Sciences, Bangalore. Dr. Paul Salins and Dr. Moni Abraham Koriakose are eminent oral and maxillofacial surgeons involved in private sector health services at Bangalore and Kerala respectively. Dr. Jacob Kaimeni is the vice chancellor at the University of Nairobi.

5. How far are the hostels from the institute?

Students are advised to stay in the university hostels while pursuing their courses here. The hostels are aplenty and they are situated within a two kilometre radius of the campus. There are separate hostels for UG/ PG and for boys and girls. The college in conjunction with university provides bus services which have suitable timings for the students to make it to their classes/ laboratories and clinics.

6. Does the college have any collaboration with Govt. or Private Organizations? Please give details.

The college has been in constant touch with international communities and various institutions in acquiring the latest information to provide better facilities, education and sound treatment. To maintain international standards in our college, there is constant support from various organisations, both Govt. and private. The institute has attracted partnerships with organisations like Indian Council of Medical Research, World Health Organization and Colgate Palmolive, Piscataway, New Jersey USA. Our institute has collaborations with Nobel Biocare and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi for providing state-of-the-art education in oral implantology. Every year our post graduate students visit the Post Graduate Institute and Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER) in a student exchange programme to learn and share more information. Recently our institute reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Southern California, USA for academic collaboration and scholarly exchange between the institutions wherein there will be an exchange of faculty and students for research and clinical training. This year, 13 of our undergraduate students have already attended and externship programme in July 2009.
