Manipal University is the first of its kind in India to have a separate department for Dental Materials, with well qualified teaching faculty, to pursue both academic and research activities. Dental Materials has been an integral part of our curriculum for the last several decades. The quality of dental treatment and its clinical success are mainly dependent on the way knowledge of dental materials is exercised. The science of dental materials involves learning about the physical, chemical, mechanical and biological properties of materials used in dentistry. The application of this science thus enables a qualified dentist to select and use the most suitable material and manipulative techniques. In this way, he will be able to give the patient, the best treatment possible.

Dental Science is advancing tremendously with numerous innovations and improvements in the field. Scientific Research and developments are also undertaken by the department to cope up with the scenario along with the academics.
