The Bachelor Architecture, Bachelor Architecture (Interior Design) is a five-year full time professional degree programme accredited by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi- a statutory body of Government of India that regulates architectural education in India. Stage-I of the B.Arch. programme is also accredited by the Commonwealth Association of Architects, London. The B. Arch programme is recognized by the Indian Institute of Architects.
Specific objectives are:
• The development of an appreciation of the ways in which design ideas and technology can be used to order complexity at all scales from broad strategy through to detail resolution of building envelope/interiors.
• The development of communication skills through the presentation and discussion of architectural and interior design with peers, the profession and the community.
•The development of a coherent set of architectural/interior design values.
Design is an essential skill for the practice of architecture/interior, requiring a synthesis of ideas responding to the needs of the client and the community and with an inherent concern for the quality of human living and working environments.
The focus of the Bachelor of Architecture, Interior Design is the teaching of architectural/ interior design through studio and community based projects. The projects involve the application and integration of the knowledge and skills acquired from supporting courses. Critique sessions will form part of the studio procedure in teaching. Support courses include formal lectures, followed by seminars/tutorials. In addition to design, key areas of the B. Arch programme are environmental design, urban design, building technology, computer aided design, history and theory, landscape architecture, building conservation, project management and people/environment studies whereas in B.Arch Interior Design, the emphasis turns to be building materials, product design, market survey, computer aided design and Architectural psychology.
Eminent professionals from the field are invited for guest lectures, design critique sessions. Renowned architects Charles Correa, Uttam C. Jam, Anant Raje, Prem Chandavarkar, K Jaisim, Sanjay Mohe, Professor Amos Rapaport and Sanand Maharaj are among the distinguished visitors to the institute.
Professional Training Programme
One year of professional training is part of the B.Arch. and B.Arch Interior Design curriculum. The students usually find placement in the leading architectural/Interior firms in India and overseas.
