Dr. S. Poornachandra
 

S. Poornachandra obtained his Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal in 1994.  Earlier he did his B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering from National Institute of Technology Mysore in 1989.

Pursuing his higher education, he did his PhD in Signal Processing from Anna University, Chennai in 2007. Dr Poornachandra dedicated his service to teaching profession and worked for more than 2 decades  in various  reputed Engineering Institutions all over the country holding different academic positions.

He was the Principal of Dhaanish Ahmed College of Engg.,  Anna University, India for a duration of one year from 2009 to 2010 and at present he is a senior professor in R.M.K Engineering college, Chennai. He is not only a very good academician but also a prolific researcher in the field of Biomedical Engineer.

Dr. S. Poornachandra has chaired sessions in the many national and international conference and given many key note addresses. He as visited many colleges in Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh and Maharashtra and delivered technical talks.

Mr. T. Mathevan Pillai
 
 
T Mathevan Pillai obtained his BE degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, in 1979. Presently he is working in Neyveli Lignite Corporation, R & D Department near Chennai.  
  

Work Experience:
  • Served as a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1980 to 1981 at MIT, Manipal
  • Experience in 50 & 100 MW Unit O&M, LEP of Neyveli Thermal Power Station from1981 to 1996
  • Working in NLC R&D department from 1996 to till date.
  • Overall in charge for all R&D Pilot plants (Humic acid, Activated carbon, Combustion, Gasification)

Projects Completed under R&D

  • Prepared lignite-tar- oil slurry a substitute for furnace oil and conducted test firing in collaboration with  BHEL, Trichy and conducted test firing at their furnace ( Under coal S&T Project).
  • Completed the design, fabrication, erection and commissioning of Agglomerated Coke pilot plant ( Under coal S&T Project)
  • Completed erection, commissioning and test firing of lignite test furnace for combustion and gasification ( Sponsored by UNiDO, Vienna)
     Trained in combustion Pilot plant at DMT, Germany under UNIDO projects.
  • Completed the design, fabrication, erection and commissioning of Humic acid pilot plant ( In-House R&D project) and obtained patent and commercialized the technology.
  • Completed the design, fabrication, erection and commissioning of Activate carbon pilot plant from lignite in collaboration with RRL (CSIR), Trivandrum. Applied for patent.
  • Completed the design, fabrication, erection and commissioning of various equipment-wise rotary vacuum paddle drier, IBR boiler, tray drier, thin film evaporator, EOT crane etc.
Areas of interest:

Interested to conduct classes  for Thermal power engineering subjects and R&D activities

  • ME Thermal Power Engineering, MIE, Boiler operation engineers  Certificate(BOE).


Other achievements:

  • Reduced the cost of production of potassium humate ( Fertilizer for agriculture)
  • Produced lignite-tar- oil slurry a substitute for furnace oil for the first time in India.
  • Introduced liquid humic acid (lignite based) for the first time in India during 2003.
  • Produced Activated carbon from lignite for the first time in India during 2007.
  • Conducted classes for AMIE Mechanical at Institution of Engineers India .
  • Conducting classes for National Power Training Institute (NPTI).
  • Conducting seminar classes at NIT, Trichy.
  • Conducting Training at Neyveli Training Complex.

Areas in which you can deliver your expertise:
  • R&D projects,, interested to take collaborative projects with Institute and industries, deliver special lecture programme on thermal power engineering.


Family details:

Wife (housewife). Children- Older son doing house surgency (BDS) at  Chennai and the younger one just joined BE (Mechanical) at Pondicherry.
 
Hobbies:
 Regularly doing flexibility, mobility and power exercise. Playing golf.
