Professor Dr. Prabhu took over as Registrar, Manipal University, Manipal on March 1, 2008. He Graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology, Davangere (Mysore University), Dr. GK Prabhu did M.Tech in Biomedical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal (Mangalore University) with university first rank. He was awarded his Ph.D. by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

Dr. Prabhu is also a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering of Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal. Actively involved in research activities, bringing the industry and academia together, he has served the institution in various capacities, including that of as Head of the Department and Associate Director (R & D). He is the recipient of prestigious national award, “Shri Shyam Lal Saxena Memorial Award” for the year 2006-2007 by National Academy of Medical Sciences, for his best published work in the field of biomedical engineering.
